CHIEF PATRON

The Chief Patron for the Trust is Mr. T.V. Mohandas Pai, Chairman of Manipal Global Education. Mr. Pai was earlier a Member of the Board of Directors of Infosys and served under various capacities including being its CFO and also the Head of Administration, Education and Research, Financial, Human Resources, and Infosys Leadership Institute. He has a keen interest in improving literacy across the country, mainly primary education and the Akshaya Patra Foundation that he is involved with helps provide midday meals to lakhs of children across India.


MANAGING TRUSTEE

The Archive has been the brain-child of Bangalore based author/historian and musician, Vikram Sampath. (hyper link to www.vikramsampath.com) Vikram is the author of three acclaimed books: Splendours of Royal Mysore: the Untold Story of the Wodeyars on the Mysore royal family; “My Name Is Gauhar Jaan: The Life and Times of a Musician”- the biography of India’s first recording superstar Gauhar Jaan of Calcutta and “Voice of the Veena: S Balachander – A Biography” the story of eminent veena maestro late Dr. S Balachander. Vikram was awarded the Sahitya Akademi’s first Yuva Puraskar and the ARSC International Award for Excellence in Historical research in New York for his book on Gauhar Jaan. The book has also been adapted to theatre as a play “Gauhar”, written by Mahesh Dattani, and directed by Lillette Dubey. The film rights of the book have recently been acquired by eminent filmmaker Ashutosh Gowariker. Vikram was selected as a Writer-in-Residence at the Rashtrapati Bhawan in March 2015. Vikram is a scholar of music and history at the University of Queensland, Australia, where he has submitted his doctoral thesis in history. He was awarded the prestigious Visiting Fellowship at the Wissenschaftskolleg (Institute for Advanced Study) in Berlin, where he researched the early gramophone recordings of Indian music. Vikram has been part of several Government Committees–the Central Government’s I&B Ministry Committee on Archives for AIR & DD, Karnataka Government Tourism Vision Group, Karnataka Knowledge Commission etc and represents India in the UNESCO body, ISME (International Society for Music Education). He is currently chosen as one of the young leaders for the Aspen Global Leadership Programme and also represented India at the Australia-India Youth Dialogue in February 2017. He is an engineer /mathematician from BITS-Pilani and an MBA in Finance from SP Jain, Mumbai. He is also a trained Carnatic vocalist trained under several eminent gurus and writes regularly for newspapers and magazines. He has established the Archive of Indian Music, India’s first digital sound archive for vintage recordings, and has been the Founder-Director of the Bangalore Literature Festival. Vikram has worked with several corporates such as GE Money, Citibank and Hewlett Packard, the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA) in South India and the Symbiosis School of Media and Communication, Bangalore. Vikram is a contributor with Arnab Goswami’s Republic TV on matters related to politics, culture, history and society.


CORE TEAM

The co-Founder of the Archive of Indian Music is Shri Sampath Srinivasan, a retired banker, who has served at senior levels in a leading bank, and subsequently with a large non-banking financial institution. He manages the general administration, finances, and day-to-day functioning of the Trust. Smt. H.N. Nagamani, the co-Founder and Author of the Trust is a retired banker and home-maker.

 

 

 

Professor S. Sadagopan is currently the Director (President) of IIIT-Bangalore. He obtained his MS & PhD Degree from Purdue University, USA in 1979 and B.E. (Hon) Degree from Madras University, India in 1973. He had taught at IIT Kanpur (1979 to 95) and IIM Bangalore (1995-99). His research interests include OR, Multi-criteria optimization, Simulation and Enterprise computing. Prof. Sadagopan is a Fellow of the UK’s IET (formerly IEE), Computer Society of India and Institution of Engineers (India). He is a Senior Member of the IEEE and ACM. He has won numerous awards that include Fulbright Fellowship (1995), “Champion of humanity” Award of Hindustan Chamber of Commerce (2009), “Rotary Honor of Vocational Excellence” by Rotary Northwest Bangalore District 3190 (2013), Engineering Watch “Campus Preparedness” Award (2015), and Cisco NDTV “Digital Pioneer” Award (2016) to name a few. Prof. Sadagopan consults extensively to some of the largest private & public sector corporations in India, in Computing, Communications, Software, Automotive, Oil and Power industries as well as social sector. He is a member of the Board of Directors of several private and public sector corporations; he is also a member of the Board of Studies of several Universities.

Pranav Pai is the Founding Partner at 3one4 Capital – an early-stage venture capital fund that is based in Bangalore. He is deeply involved with the startup ecosystem in India, and leads partnerships and co-investments in the San Francisco Bay-Area as well. 

His interests focus on the integration of technology and design to build products that consistently deliver important value propositions at scale. 
Previously, he was the Sr. Product Manager at EdCast, an ed-tech startup in the Bay Area. He graduated with a Master’s in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University. He also volunteers on the advisory boards and steering committees of non-profits that work in areas he is passionate about – like Code For India and The Archive of Indian Music.                                                                         

Ricky Kej is a talented young musician, a Grammy Award winner, and has several accolades such as the Billboard # 1 position, UN Humanitarian Artist Award, two Zone Music Awards in the USA, South African Music Awards, a 2015 GIMA award and a National Youth Icon Award in India to name a few. His latest album ‘Shanti Samasara’ was launched by the Prime Minister of India Mr Narendra Modi and the French President Francois Hollande at the COP21 Paris Summit. He has the unique distinction of being among the 3 Indian musicians who have performed at the UN General Assembly! His works revolve around environmental conservation and animal rights and how music and music education can be a vehicle for this. Ricky is Bangalore based (http://shantisamsara.com)
