The guiding principles of the Archive of Indian Music (AIM) are the preservation and dissemination of the early recordings of Indian classical and folk music, theatre and cinema and also the rich aural traditions of India and make these available to the public at large. The objectives are:
- To digitize the above recordings, clean them and create a catalogue of high quality and high fidelity recordings.
- To preserve and disseminate these hitherto inaccessible recordings and making them easily available for listening for scholars, musicians, students and interested public.
- To create documentation around these recordings thereby creating a rich database around documented history related to the era of the music recording, the biographical details of the artists etc. as also create a Visual repository of rare photographs, gramophone record sleeve images and other materials of historical significance.
